I am a lecturer in nuclear physics at Sheffield University with a background in translating sensing technologies from the nuclear sector into other areas. I founded a spinout company applying cosmic ray sensors to underground tunnel mapping (Geoptic), alongside working closely with Embrapa, Brazil, to understand how neutron and gamma ray detectors can be used to optimise variable rate irrigation by remote sensing of soils. I am the project lead for the CosmicRay ARIA project, focused on modifying our neutron sensor design to make them suitable for use in distributed sensor networks on the GrIS.

Rob Foster (System Integration)
Contact : r.j.foster@sheffield.ac.uk
I am a postdoctoral research associate in the particle physics group at the University of Sheffield. In the past I worked in neutrino physics where I tested and characterised ultrafast photosensors. Now I predominantly work in applied particle physics, developing radiation detectors for nuclear security and environmental monitoring applications.

This website was made for the purpose of communicating and releasing the story, and information around CosmicRay outside of academia. This website was made in collaboration with MSc Science Communication student Matthew Rowe for the completion of his dissertation. I am currently an MSc Science Communication student at the University of Sheffield, outside of having an interest in spreading the CosmicRay research, I have a background in mathematics and scientific journalism. I helped design this page and created the articles as part of my dissertation project, I hope you enjoy.
