What Can You Do?

Whilst researchers globally are tackling the scientific side of fighting and monitoring the changes in the Greenland Ice Sheet, here’s what you can do, after all, fighting against global warming needs as much support as possible.

Expand and share knowledge

There is plenty of knowledge available on this website, but there are many more tipping points globally. There are several websites or conferences that expand on these, such as:

Global Tipping Points

ARIA: Forecasting Tipping Points

ESA: Understanding Tipping Points

Looking into these will help expand your knowledge on global issues and the impact they are having on some of the world’s most impressive environments.

Feel free to share anything you find on this website, or the linked sites as spreading awareness is a critical aspect of getting information out there.

Be more climate-aware in daily activities

In your daily life, every action you take can impact climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. Here are a few things you could change with ease and help the planet:

 - Use alternatives to fossil fuels: This is not just about changing to an electric vehicle, as this is expensive, but you can take ride shares, or walk/ cycle instead of driving somewhere, not only improving the Earth’s health, but improving yours in the process.

 - Making your home more eco-friendly: Using energy-saving appliances or renewable sources of energy can help greatly. Installing solar panels and specifically shopping for friendly products will cost you in the short term but will lower your carbon footprint massively.

Get involved in the research

If you are an academic in physics, generally interested in the research, or have any questions around cosmic ray sensing for hydrology, please do not hesitate to get in contact with Patrick Stowell at p.stowell@sheffield.ac.uk.
